Individual Counselling
How I work: My counselling approach varies depending upon who I'm working with and what the circumstances are. However, I aim first and foremost to understand your situation and to look at possible causes, which may not be immediately visible. I also seek to be solution oriented in my work. This means that by asking questions, I will guide you towards gaining clearer perspectives to situations which may have become confused or blocked; by doing this options become more apparent.
If past experiences are effecting current situations, I believe it can be helpful to look back at family history. This can lead to a greater understanding of how patterns of behaviour can evolve, and how they can be changed to avoid further repetition. This needs to be done with care and understanding.
Sometimes it can simply be helpful to have someone outside of friends and family, someone neutral to talk to, to help untangle emotions.
Confidentiality is, of course, an important part of my work.
Here are some of the issues I deal with:
Couples Counselling
Issues related specifically for men
Improving confidence and self esteem
Working towards being more assertive
Difficulties with starting, sustaining, or ending relationships
Losses such as ending of a relationship or bereavement
Family related stress
Work related difficulties
Dealing with life threatening illness
HIV
Sexual Addiction
Sexual Abuse
Questions or concerns around sexuality
LGTBQI
Feeling stuck
Wanting to understand yourself better
